Terms & Conditions

The terms on which this reference is published and may be used. The essential points: it is information rather than advice, the tools are educational rather than diagnostic, we sell nothing and take no operator money, and details must be verified with the organisation or authority concerned before you rely on them.

Acceptance

By accessing or using PlayerHelpline.com (the “Site”) you agree to these Terms & Conditions (the “Terms”) and to our Privacy Policy, which forms part of them. If you do not agree, please stop using the Site. If you use it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for it.

Definitions

The website published at playerhelpline.com, including all pages, tools, text and files served from it.
“Content”
All material made available on the Site: text, tables, directories, layout, design and source code.
“Tools”
The risk self-check, the cost projection and the action checklist published on the home page.
“Support organisation”
Any independent helpline, treatment provider, self-exclusion scheme, debt-advice service or regulator referred to on the Site.

What this is

The Site is an independent, non-commercial reference on player protection and gambling-related harm. It publishes general educational material, descriptions of protections that licensed operators and regulators are required to provide, three client-side tools, and a directory of support organisations. Access is free and requires no registration.

What this is not

The Site is not:

  • an emergency, crisis or counselling service, and it is not monitored around the clock;
  • a provider of medical, psychological, therapeutic, financial, debt, tax or legal advice;
  • a gambling operator, affiliate, comparison site, payment provider or intermediary;
  • an agent or spokesperson for any support organisation, regulator or operator named here;
  • a route through which self-exclusion, account closure, complaints, refunds or chargebacks can be requested — those must be arranged directly with the scheme, operator, bank or authority concerned;
  • a fund-recovery service. We never charge for anything, and we never contact you offering to recover losses — see Impersonation and fraud.

Crisis

If you are in crisis, including any thought of self-harm or suicide, contact your local emergency number or a 24-hour crisis line immediately. Do not wait for a reply from this Site.

Age and eligibility

The Site is intended for adults aged 18 or over, and for parents, guardians, carers, clinicians, educators, journalists and researchers acting in that capacity. Gambling with real money by minors is unlawful in the jurisdictions described here. By using the Site you confirm that you are at least 18, or that you are using it under the supervision of a parent or guardian.

No professional advice

All Content is general information. It cannot take account of your circumstances and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified clinician, financial adviser, regulated debt adviser or lawyer. Never delay seeking professional help, or disregard advice already given to you, because of something you read here. Decisions you take on the basis of the Content are your own.

Limits of the tools

Risk self-check

The nine-item self-check is an educational screen modelled on publicly described indicators of gambling harm. It is not a diagnostic instrument, has not been clinically validated in the form published here, and its output is not a medical opinion. A score of zero does not mean your gambling is safe; a high score is not a diagnosis. Only a qualified professional can assess your situation.

Cost projection

The projection performs arithmetic on figures you supply. It assumes your own inputs are accurate and that the pattern continues unchanged; it applies no currency conversion, no interest, no inflation and no allowance for variance. It is an illustration for reflection, not a forecast, a valuation or a statement of loss.

Action checklist

The checklist is a prompt, not a compliance procedure, and completing it creates no protection in itself — only the underlying steps taken with your operators, bank and devices do. Ticks are held in the browser and are lost on reload, by design.

All three Tools run entirely on your device and transmit nothing to us, so we neither receive nor retain what you enter. We give no warranty that a Tool is free of error, and you should not rely on one as the sole basis for a decision about your health, your money or your legal position.

Accuracy and availability

We take reasonable care to keep the Content accurate and current, but gambling law, licence conditions, self-exclusion schemes, bank policies and helpline contact details change often and differ by jurisdiction. We give no warranty that any item is complete, current or applicable where you are. Verify telephone numbers, licence status, scheme terms and legal requirements with the organisation or authority concerned before acting.

The Site is provided on an “as available” basis. We may suspend, withdraw or restrict all or part of it for maintenance, security or other operational reasons, without notice and without liability.

Third parties and links

The Site links to and describes independent organisations. Those references are provided for convenience and in the public interest; they are not endorsements, and they create no partnership, agency, joint venture or sponsorship. We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, waiting times, fees, terms, privacy practices, or the outcome of any contact you have with them. Dealings with a third party are solely between you and that party.

No gambling or promotion

We do not operate, host, facilitate, advertise or promote gambling in any form. There are no reviews, rankings, bonus offers, promotional codes or affiliate links on the Site, and we accept no payment, commission, hospitality or other benefit from gambling operators, affiliates or suppliers. Where an operator, brand or product category is named, it is to explain an obligation, a mechanism or a risk. Nothing here is an invitation or inducement to gamble.

Impersonation and fraud

We will never ask you for a gambling account password, card or bank details, a fee, or payment in vouchers or cryptocurrency, and we do not offer to recover losses. Any person or page doing so while claiming to act for PlayerHelpline.com is not connected with us. Please report it to your national fraud reporting body, to the platform where it appeared, and to [email protected] so we can pursue takedown where possible. The patterns to watch for are set out in Section 12 of the reference.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Site unlawfully, or in breach of applicable gambling, advertising or consumer-protection law;
  • copy or republish the Content in a way that suggests endorsement of a gambling product or service;
  • impersonate the Site, its publishers or any support organisation, or misrepresent an affiliation with them;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site or any connected system, or probe or test its security without written permission;
  • interfere with the Site’s operation, including by denial-of-service activity or by introducing malicious code;
  • scrape the Content at a rate that burdens our infrastructure, or in order to build a competing commercial directory;
  • use the Site to send unsolicited communications or to collect data about other visitors.

We may restrict or block access where we reasonably believe these Terms have been breached, and may report unlawful activity to the competent authorities.

Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the Content, its selection and arrangement, and the design and source code of the Site are owned by or licensed to us and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. “PlayerHelpline.com” and our mark are ours.

You may read, print and share individual pages, and quote short extracts, for personal, educational, clinical, journalistic or non-commercial public-interest purposes, provided you attribute PlayerHelpline.com, do not alter the meaning of what you quote, and do not present the material as your own. Printing the checklist for personal or clinical use is expressly permitted. Systematic reproduction, framing, resale or commercial use requires our prior written consent. Third-party names and marks remain the property of their owners and are used for identification only.

Your submissions

If you send us a correction, suggestion or directory entry, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, adapt and publish it on the Site, and you confirm you are entitled to grant that licence. We are not obliged to publish, acknowledge or keep confidential any unsolicited submission, and we pay no fee for it. Please do not send confidential information, and do not send another person’s personal details without their consent.

Privacy

Our handling of personal data is set out in the Privacy Policy, including what is processed, the legal bases, retention and your rights. If these Terms and the Privacy Policy conflict on a data-protection matter, the Privacy Policy prevails.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Site, the Content and the Tools are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the Site or its server is free of harmful components.

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for:

  • gambling losses, debts or any other financial loss, however caused;
  • loss of profit, revenue, business, opportunity, goodwill or anticipated savings;
  • indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss;
  • loss or corruption of data, including tool input lost when a page is closed or reloaded;
  • any act, omission, delay, error or unavailability of a support organisation, regulator, bank, blocking service or operator referred to here;
  • reliance on the Content or on a Tool output, including a contact detail, licence statement, scheme description or projection that is out of date or inapplicable to your jurisdiction.

Because the Site is provided free of charge, our aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with your use of it — in contract, tort (including negligence), statute or otherwise — shall not exceed one hundred euro (EUR 100). Some jurisdictions do not permit certain exclusions or limitations; there, the above applies only to the extent permitted.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against any claim, liability, loss and reasonable cost (including legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your unlawful use of the Site, or your unauthorised use of the Content.

Local law

Gambling is regulated differently in every jurisdiction and prohibited outright in some. The Content is not tailored to any single jurisdiction and is not a statement of the law where you are. You are responsible for complying with the law applicable to you, and for confirming that access to the Site and to the services it describes is lawful in your location.

Changes

We may amend these Terms at any time. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version, and material changes will be highlighted on the Site for a reasonable period. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms. We may also change, add or remove Content, Tools and features at our discretion.

General

Entire agreement

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of the Site, and supersede any prior statement not set out in them.

Severability

If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary or severed, and the remainder will continue in force.

No waiver

A delay or failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it and does not prevent later enforcement.

Assignment

You may not assign your rights under these Terms. We may assign ours to a successor in connection with a reorganisation or transfer of the Site, provided your rights are not materially prejudiced.

Consumer rights

If you use the Site as a consumer, these Terms do not affect the mandatory statutory rights and protections available to you under the law of your country of residence, including your right to bring proceedings before the courts of that country.

Force majeure

We are not liable for failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including hosting or network failure, cyber-attack, power outage, act of public authority or natural event.

Contact

One address handles everything — legal notices, editorial corrections and data-protection matters alike: [email protected]. Mark the subject line accordingly (“legal notice”, “correction”, “data request”) so it is dealt with by the right person.

Please raise any complaint with us first. We would rather correct an error or clarify a passage than have someone rely on something inaccurate.
